Bronzes & Artifacts

Copper was used throughout the ancient world beginning with the Egyptians at least 5000 years before Christ. Later, Greeks and Romans obtained the metal from today's island of Cypress ("Copper"). North American Indians were already using copper before Europeans settled on the continent. Rust-resistant and easily tooled and finished, bronze is also valued by artists because it is easily colored. Fine craftsmanship turns the processed metal into a lasting treasure. The Christian Heritage Museum features bronzes of great Christian figures and items of religious significance.

Artifacts are a major part of archaeological finds. People began to investigate artifacts from interest, but they are now studied through archaeological science, making fascinating discoveries about the past. From Iron Age II and the era of King David, to the Bronze Age and the fall of the Babylonian Empire, to the Coptic Period in the first several centuries A.D., the Christian Heritage Museum's artifacts are a remarkable display of ancient civilizations.
